Its Vision is to become a center of excellence in seeking knowledge and disseminating it to a wide spectrum of beneficiaries at national, regional and global levels. While its mission is to provide integrated teaching, research and public services that are geared towards achieving sustainable socio-economic development for Tanzania and the World at large. It is so far the only university in Tanzania with the Centre for Housing Studies now grown into the Institute of Human Settlement Studies (IHSS), which is involved in the ‘regularization of informal settlements’, with which Dar es Salaam is plentifully endowed. In the 1979, the Centre for Housing Studies was established as a joint project between the Government of Tanzania and the Netherlands. The partnership was very successful, the center has now grown into the Institute of Human Settlement Studies (IHSS) which is currently offering various postgraduate programs including MSc. in Housing, MSc. in Public policy analysis and Program Management and PhDs in the following areas: (1) Built Environment Analysis, (2) Climate change studies (3) Housing and settlements studies and (4) Public policy analysis and Program Management. Ardhi University has also been involved in partnership opportunities with various institutions to strengthen higher education (postgraduate) programs, research and infrastructure as indicated including Erasmus+ KA107 an Erasmus mobility program in partnership with Université Hasselt ; EU Commission- H2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie, Global Fellowship Accelerating transition in peri-urban areas in East African partnership with Technische Universität Darmstadt ; Erasmus+ G KRITISO4, Mobility Student exchange, staff exchange (ERASMUS) in partnership with Technological Education Institute of Crete, Greece; Erasmus+ LI VADU201, Staff and Student exchange programme in partnership with University of Liechtenstein and Ardhi University; and INTRA-ACP, Strengthening African Higher Education through Academic Mobility in partnership with 6 other African university

The University’s mandate is to revolutionize the educational landscape of Africa. It is poised to creating knowledge through Human Development, and Total Man Concept is driven curriculum, employing innovative, leading-edge, teaching and learning methods, research and professional services that promote integrated, life-applicable, life-transforming education relevant to the context of Science, Technology and Human Capacity Building. Covenant University has been involved in sustainable development programs with a vibrant Centre for Research Innovation and Discovery (CUCRID). Covenant’s 301+ most recent ranking by the Times Higher Education (THE) for United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was based on her scaled and pre-rounded performance on Sustainable Development Goal 17 (SDG 17– Partnership for the Goals) and her top three SDGs. These included the SDG 4 (Quality Education); SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions); and SDG 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing). The university recently got enlisted among top universities with a grant to host Africa Centre of Excellence. The university has four colleges: Engineering, Science and Technology; Business and Social Sciences; and Leadership Development with programs running at the postgraduate levels for Masters and PhDs. The university, through the International Office, has strong linkages with institutions across the globe and has won several grants and awards. The mobility scheme surely will benefit from the existing ties with other universities both at home and abroad.
University of Malawi: University of Malawi has many years of experience in managing partnerships. For example, University of Malawi jointly developed a Master of Science programme with Leeds Beckett University and University of Botswana.

In addition, University of Malawi has experience in strengthening partnerships between industry and academia obtained through the Higher Education Partnerships in Sub-Saharan Africa (HEPSSA) funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE). Through this project, both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes were strengthened through involvement of industry and local and international experts in programme delivery and undertaking of joint projects. Further, University of Malawi is successfully managing joint projects with Rice University from USA. At University of Malawi, Dr Theresa Mkandawire and Dr Suzgo Kaunda, experts in managing partnerships and also the Coordinating postgraduate programmes, will manage the project
Leeds Beckett University has years of experience in managing mobility exchanges through the Erasmus programme. Leeds Beckett University was also involved in the AguaSociAL joint exchange programme aims to strengthen research cooperation and knowledge sharing between Brazil and Europe within the water related sciences.

This project was sponsored under the Marie Curie International Research Staff Exchange Scheme (IRSES). In addition, LBU has experience in partnership programmes with African HEI in an effort to help capacity development and offer potential development solutions. For example, has development a partnership with the Malawi Polytechnic running to over 15 years. This has involved regular staff academic visits in both directions, joint research projects addressing issues of potable water, project monitoring and infrastructure reliability; and PhD study by a Malawi academic under the supervision of LMU. Leeds Beckett University also secured funding from the UK’s Department for International Development (DfID) under the Development Partnerships in Higher Education programme (DelPHE) to develop a range of new postgraduate courses, focusing on sustainable engineering, in Africa in conjunction with the Universities of Malawi and Botswana. The focus of these courses is on sustainable engineering. In addition, Leeds Sustainability Institute, at LBU is a flagship centre for sustainability research which has over the years delivered a number of sustainability projects whose outcomes have influenced both government policy and industry practice. The mobility scheme will benefit from its association with LBU as it LBU will be able to provide advice on managing a sustainability research agenda.
